    Description

An original and rare manuscript pay receipt for volunteer service in the ill-fated Revolutionary War Penobscot Expedition in the summer of 1779, an attempt to drive out British forces preparing to build a fort in the Maine wilderness. Many of the surviving soldiers had to make their way home through the dense countryside, and final bounty payments were not made to the soldiers who returned until at least the following year. This receipt is dated Falmouth, December 26, 1781, and is signed by SOLOMON HASKELL, for his brother Thomas.. Needs further research...  Size 3 1/2" x 8", docketed on reverse, hand made rag paper, folds, some age holes but good condition for such a rare document......Guaranteed original......00 shipping............
