'puncture vine'
This Creosote Bush Family species has a large native range.
In Hawaii it is indigenous and usually found on the coast.
This plant is an attractive ground cover but has the nastiest spiny seedpods in the World.
Most Hawaiians know this native plant well because of this.
The early Hawaiians also gave the name nohu to the scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis spp.) with poisonous spines.
Mrs. Francis Sinclair, Jr. was from the Sinclair-Robinson Family
mostly known as owners of the island of
Niʻihau for the last 158 years.
Today, although the state records list them separately,
if you combined the Robinsons’ holdings of nearly 51,000 acres on Kauai
and some 46,000 acres on Niʻihau,
the family would be the sixth largest landowner in the state of Hawaii.
