Auctioning off a wonderful 18th century antique sea Captains Liquor chest with period decanters in very good condition.  Decanters are period pieces, free blown pontiled bottles, some with polished bases, and all with gold painted decorated upper trim.  Their size is  as follows:  4 bottles stand approx 8.5 inces tall X 4 and 3/8ths wide x 3 inches deep, 1 stands approx 8 inches to top of lip X 4 and 1/8 wide X 2 and 5/8ths in depth, and the smallest stands approx 6 inches tall X 2 and 5/8s square, all decanters are very dirty and have no breaks, cracks, or repairs. 5 of the stoppers appear original with gold painted areas on their top section, and the stopper on the smallest decanter looks to be non-original. (see stopper photos) .  I don't think the 2 stemmed  glasses are original because they appear newer than the period free blown decanters, and the tumbler glass doesn't fit correctly in the hole mount that was there for that type of glass.  I am including them because they came with the set when I bought it.  The chest/box description is as follows:  measures approx 17 and 1/4 inches x 11 and 1/4 inches x 11 inches....box color appears very dark green and if it was painted, it was very long ago, back hinges have been replaced long ago....strap hinges still on back but one is missing it's upper section....metal hand forged "twist " handles original and very nice...lock is present but missing it's backing plate and key missing...a few splits in wood...left from lower corner of box missing a 2 inch piece of wood...interior lining of box is deteriorating due to age with some of it's wall paper and felt material missing here and there....box is still very sturdy and displays beautifully.  This is a very heavy item and will be shipped double boxed for adde

Original wooden box has some damage such as broken metal hinge, back hinges replaced years ago, missing box key, decanters very nice shape but very dirty, missing original glasses, interior of box liner is frayed and deteriorated with age...please view all photos and read description for better determination of condition

the grand kids have told me that they have no interest in any of the collections in the family’s traveling museum-- MOCAPA. A bit disappointing to hear but well understood in the 21st century. Plus, for me, collecting lacks the attraction that it had in years past as well as the steward collectors. Thanks, joe
