It has 1/8" side and 1" top and bottom white margins (see photo) © color by North Shore Photo.Waimea Bay, Haleiwa, North Oahu Hawaii is one the largest surf breaks in the
world. It is also home of the Eddie Aikau Memorial Big Wave Surfing contest only
held when the waves are at least 40 feet high. Waimea shorebreak waves are
some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean
storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of
the ocean's mightiness. This 50 foot high wave is breaking in water only about
15 feet deep. It has been said that one wave this size if harnessed for energy
could provide enough electrical power to light a thousand homes for over an hour.
Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent
waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother
nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome,
humbling, and unforgettable experience.
This is an original photo from long time Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography who has been shooting and selling photos of historic surfing, Hawaiiana, stock, and scenics since 1967 to professional galleries, publishing, media, and corporate clients worldwide.
