    Description

An original antique picture print from 1917 of the Palace at Honolulu -- New Home of the Legislature.  This refers to the Territorial Government of Hawaii when it became a Territory in 1900 and began sessions in 1901.  Photograph by E.M. Newman.  There is somebody standing in the shade of the tall tree which if you have ever been to Hawaii on a hot day makes perfect sense.
Information on the backside explains the status of Hawaii at that time.  It talks about crops, education, the leper colony on Molokai and Father Damien's work, the strategic position of Hawaii in the Pacific for ship stocking, the Hilo railroad for sugar, pineapples, rubber, and lumber, wagon roads, etc.
This was prepared by the editorial staff of the Mentor Association.  Illustration for the Mentor, Vol 5, No 14, Serial No 138.  Copyright 1917.  The Mentor Association produced an American educational magazine at the time.
I came across this in Honolulu Hawaii along with some other antique and vintage items from a local.  The "1917" penciled on the front lower border might be able to be gently removed with an eraser, but I will leave it untouched.
