Description
This is a beautiful and quite rare Revolutionary War-era folding pocket knife that is made in the French or Spanish style. There is a very similar one pictured in the book titled "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Newmann. The knife is in 100% original condition with no repairs or damage. It has the flat slanted end with a single cutting edge with a rare stud that fits into the back spring. These were very common in the French and Indian trading sites. The handle is made from cow's horn and it's very unusual as it has a pipe tamper on the end. It has nice engraved lines, 6 brass pins, 3 steel pins, and a large peened pin that holds the blade on. Overall length of the knife with blade open is 7.25". Blade edge is 3.25" long. When folded, the knife measures 4.25" long. The metal engraved piece just before the pipe tamper is possibly sterling or German silver. The handles are in excellent condition. A really beautiful example of an early knife that dates from around 1750s-1790s.
