    Description

c 1782 Revolutionary War Period Manuscript Document Signed 2nd MA. Regt Officers
2nd Massachusetts Regiment Revolutionary War Officers
    c. 1782 Revolutionary War Period, Manuscript Document Signed, “List of the Commissioned, and Staff Officers, in the 2d Massachusetts Regiment commanded by Lt. Col. Comdt. Sprout,” Very Fine.
A very clean and well written Manuscript Document, measuring 13.25” x 8.75” with an above-average appearance for its age. The columns listed show the date the officers were commissioned or appointed, their name, rank, and various remarks. The listing includes, Major Hugh Maxwell, who was noted as being "On Command at Stanford." The earliest commission date of any of the officers was in 1775; the latest was in 1782. A unique and desirable Revolutionary War document, listing many Continental Army officers and “John Hart” as a Surgeon. A nice document for display, which deserves further research for the many potentially important and historic soldiers that are listed within.
Hugh Maxwell was a Massachusetts Minuteman who joined Prescott’s Company after hearing about the Battle of Lexington. At Bunker Hill, he was injured when a musket ball passed through his right shoulder. Later, he was present at the siege of Boston and the battles of Trenton, Princeton, Saratoga, and Monmouth. His company entered Valley Forge in December 1777 and left in June 1778. While not a major figure in the Revolutionary War, Maxwell certainly saw his share of action and we have the pleasure of offering several items that refer to him.
