    An original manuscript receipt [presumably in German or Dutch] from the Hudson Valley of New York in the years before the American Revolution,....Merchant CORNELIUS LOW [1700-1777] has signed February 8, 1762, that he has received payment for supplies from CONRADT ELMENDORF [1710-1789], proprietor of a famous Inn and Tavern in the Town of Kingston, N.Y. The Inn still stands, having played an important role in the Revolutionary War in New York....Cornelius Low was a major New Jersey merchant whose family originally settled Kingston. He was a staunch supporter of the British Crown, and his property was spared during the Revolution..
