The original mill was established in 1864 in the area east of Thompson Corner (and Paalaa Road) by brothers Warren & Levi Chamberlain. They supplied sugar (which was cut off from the Southern sates) for the Northern States during the Civil War forcing the Yankees to import it from the islands. After the war ended the mill quickly went bankrupt in 1870. In 1875 Robert Halstead bought the operation and ran it with his two sons. They hauled sugar to the coast by mule or oxen and then shipped it by steamer from Haleiwa Harbor. The old mill site was abandoned in 1899 due to the much larger Waialua Agricultural Company operation established to the north, and the introduction of entrepreneur Ben Dillingham's Oahu Railway and Land Company to Haleiwa (O.R.&L.) provided a more modern and economical way to deliver the product to Honolulu.  Much more info on back of print .

We print on long lasting lithographic, giclee professional glossy or mat paper using archival inks, or real photographic paper. Some prints are from black and white or hand colored originals, others have been ©colorized by our artist.
