Description
Continuing to clean out the train closet. For bid is a vintage PFM Union Pacific 2-8-0 consolidation. Manufactured for PFM by United (Atlas) in 1964 in a run of 140 models. The model features a Vanderbilt oil tender.
The locomotive is unpainted brass. There is tarnish visible under the intact clear coat, common on PFM locomotives of this era. All details are intact, including the bell rope.
The locomotive was test run prior to listing. It runs surprisingly well for a 57 year old locomotive. The mechanism has no binds and is quite smooth. With the open frame motor the locomotive is, of course, noisy and fast. While lubrication would probably improve performance, this little guy would be a natural for re-motoring with a can motor, fly wheel and DCC installation. The closed gearbox is worm to driver gear, without an idler gear.
I have TRO the locomotive twice in the decade I've owned it. The prior owner likely didn't run it much as there is no significant wheel wear. The nickel-silver plating on the drivers, wheel sets and side rods is intact.
The model will be shipped in its original box and foam, both in very in good condition.
I can't use it, can you?
