***NOTE- PRINT IS MUCH SHARPER, WE ARE HAVING AN EBAY ERROR: POOR SHARPNESS, COLOR, & RESOLUTION PROBLEMS. IT IS IS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE FOR THEM TO FIX-SORRY**This is a high quality original shrinkwrapped hand printed silver halide gelatin photograph (not a digital inkjet print) custom printed by long time Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus in a darkroom from the original negative, archivally developed in chemistry on black & white photographic paper,
cropped, and mounted on an 8x10 inch backing board **which is included as part of the print that you can see here (see photo)
and is not a mat board cutout, with caption and photography of the first Polynesian Voyaging Society's Hokule'a ancient sailing canoe replica as it enters Haleiwa Harbor 1997. This boat was used to sail to other Pacific islands and around the world using ancient traditional native methods to navigate voyages which proved these methods were viable. It is initialed ('BR 97')on the front of the photo, and is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage and has the history of the vessel, and preservation tips included in the label on the back. It was featured on the cover of the North Shore News and has been published in several magazines

It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes Hawaiiana or historic images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Our hand printed silver halide gelatin original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii.
We're proud to mention that many of our photos were used as background artwork in the new CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0".
The photo is also featured in our 90 page award winning book "Haleiwa : A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store. In the near future real black and white silver halide photographic paper will cease to be available as manufacturers phase out production because of digital photography and we won't be printing these by hand in the darkroom forever.
The photos are the 'old style' traditional film based images printed using an enlarger from a negative on real photographic paper and archivally processed by hand, not by a machine. Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery or custom photo lab for a hand printed and mounted silver halide black and white print and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. It is also available in larger sizes, please inquire.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE
:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on non-glossy semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from the original negative and margins may be slightly trimmed. *
*When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin at the edges of the photo.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is. We want to make sure you know exactly what you are buying so we hope our thorough description of these photos will answer all your questions before you purchase.
