. CONTINENTAL DRAGOONS BRASS TINDER BOX WITH FLINT & STRIKER INSIDE, 1776/81
This very fine quality brass tinder box with flint & iron striker still inside was used by Captain & Major John Jamerson when he served in Henry Light Horse Lee’s 1

Continental Dragoons, a Virginia regiment raised in Williamsburg, Virginia in November, 1776. He commanded the 3
rd
Troop from November 1776 to March 1777 & was promoted to Major of the regiment by General George Washington on March 31, 1777. He fought in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown & Guilford Court House & Yorktown when he served on the staff of Colonel Stephen Moylan dragoons & was a lesion officer to General George Washington. The brass box is .3 5/8” x 2 5/8” x 1” & has a I.1 3/8” 1 9/16” long U shaped rusty iron striker & a 1 9/16” x 1 3/16” gray flint still inside. It is in very good condition with the box still dully shiny. It was bought directly from the Jamerson family by the famous Virginia collector James Anderson who had it in his very large collection of over 1500 Virginia artifacts. It was bought directly from the Anderson Collection & comes with a certificate of authenticity & an Anderson Collection letter.
