    Description

    MAG Supercharger for Mercedes Benz M136 Engine, W136 series 170VR 170VH 170
This is an extremely rare supercharger made by Motosacoche Acacias Geneve (or MAG) in Switzerland. It pumps air when turned by hand and doesn't make any odd noises or anything. It's smooth and there are no tight spots as it turns. Given it's age and rarity I would not run this supercharger without disassembling and inspecting it. It hasn't been run for at least 50 years! My father added this to his collection of rare and cool parts sometime in the '60s but he never knew what it was made to fit. By the time I was old enough to take in interest in it he couldn't even remember where he got it!
I tried to research it off and on for many years and finally showed it to an automotive machinist who recognized an unusual feature: the notch for the rear mounting stud where it bolts to the engine is offset downward from the rest. He dug through books for half an hour before finding a pic of the intake/exhaust gasket for a Mercedes Benz M136 engine, which has the rear intake stud offset downward. The last picture is of an M136 engine I found on the web and shows the offset rear intake stud. This leads me to believe this supercharger was built for the M136 engine which was found in the W136 series Mercedes 170 model cars built from 1935 to 1955.
From looking at pictures of other MAG superchargers, as well as their famous racing motorcycle engines, this supercharger looks like it was made in the 1930s. I've found no reference to the M136 engine being used in racecars but in 1936/37 Mercedes made the limited-production 170VR, a light weight special with heavy duty suspension built for rallying. My best semi-educated guess is this supercharger was used on one of these early rally specials.
If you know anything about this supercharger please contact me! If you have an M136 engine and would be willing to measure a few things with a tape measure please contact me! There is very little information on the web about MAG or the cars this supercharger could fit and I would love to solve the 50+ year mystery of this super cool blower! I will update this listing with any information shared.
It's really difficult to put a value on something this rare and I didn't want to sell it auction-style because I'm not even sure that it fits the M136 at this point. I'm not just seeking information, I do intend to sell it and have turned on offers. If you're interested in it don't hesitate to make an offer!
I will ship this worldwide by whatever means the buyer wishes, at buyer's expense. I normally ship high value parts internationally with FedEx but eBay doesn't have that option so I selected the cheapest UPS option so the listing shows worldwide shipping. If you're outside the USA and would like a shipping quote from FedEx, DHL, or any other carrier please contact me.
