SUPERB EXAMPLE OF AN AMERICAN REV WAR PIKE/SPEAR Ca. 1777From Peterson's "Arms and Armor in Colonial America" (pge 292):
"Washington wrote (in 1777) 'I have sent for spears which I expect to receive
shortly as a defense against Horse. Til you (Morgan's riflemen) are furnished with these,
take care not to be caught in such situation as to give (the enemy) any advantage over you...'"
It measures 19 3/8 inches overall.
The socket is 6 inches.
The haft would have been about eight feet.
