    One page letter measures approx. 5 1/8" x 8"; letter is in fine condition; good ink;  CDV measures approx. 2 1/2" x 4 1/8"; CDV in fair condition; (period writing on CDV by neighbor!); Photographer "Black" back stamp on reverse of the CDV.

    Livermore met with President Abraham Lincoln who later donated the original signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation to her for auction to raise money for the U.S. Sanitary Commission which ran hospitals and collected supplies for soldiers during the Civil War.
    Mary Livermore (1820-1905) was an American journalist and advocate of women's rights.  She published a collection of nineteen essays entitled "Pen Pictures" in 1863.
