    1776 A Loyal American Protests His Ship has been Seized
    November, (20th) 1776-Dated Revolutionary War Date, Manuscript Court Document Signed, “Philip Higgins,” Choice Very Fine.
    This Manuscript Document Signed by Philip Higgins is a protest by a loyal American whose Ship had been seized, Fine. One page, 8.5” x 13”, 1.75” x 1” tear hole affecting 3 words near top, some foxing, minor wear and expected folds. Written at Providence, RI, on November [20th], 1776, Captain Philip Higgins of Georgetown, MA (now in Maine) testifies to the Court that he and his partners were the owners of the Schooner “Endeavor” which had recently been seized by the American Continental Navy, that they were "subjects and friends of the United States of America," and that the ship was not sailing to Nova Scotia to supply British subjects. Reverse side Docket reads: “Capt. Philip Higgins Claim to Schooner Endeavour”. Boldly written in deep brown with the signature “Philip Higgins” measuring about 2.5” long at the conclusion. A rarely encountered Continental Navy related maritime court document at Rhode Island with a plea for compensation by a protesting Patriot.
