Original Victorian Ladies Silk Parasol/Umbrella Carved Wood Handle 1800s

Description

Victorian ladies sun umbrella or mourning parasol. Measures 21.5" in length. "Tent" opens to a diameter of about 16". The carved wooden handle and finial are in excellent condition and are quite unique. The shaft is made of brass; shaft and 8 spokes are straight and not bent at all. Exterior is black silk and interior is white silk but both are in very rough condition.
This belonged to my great-grandmother who lived her entire life in New Jersey (1854-1920). I imagine this was something she used in the 1870s/1880s.
