This rare relic is an 18th Century boot scraper mounted outside a Colonial home for getting the mud off your shoes. It's an old style you don't often see on the market. Most sit on the ground and many are 19th Century. You likely won't encounter a boot scraper like this one again. You would hammer the spike into the wooden home or cabin and nail/screw the other end. Before paved roads you had very muddy roads so these were a must outside the home for removing the mud. The blade for scraping the mud off is 6 inches. Just a super artifact from the Colonial days when our Founding Fathers roamed the muddy streets.
