    Description

    1783 Revolutionary War manuscript document, 1 pg., approx. 6-1/4" x 4-1/4", dated at Mansfield, Connecticut, March 15, 1783, and signed by John Smith, a soldier of the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army, requesting of the Committee of the Paytable of the State of CT. that the balance due him for his service be paid to Dan Dunham of Mansfield. Also signed by Ephraim Root, a Justice of the Peace, certifying that John Smith signed the document in his presence
    The document reads:
    "Gentl'n, Please to make out and deliver unto Dan Dunham of Mansfield ye proper orders on ye Treasurer for ye remaining ballance due to me of my wages for Service in ye Connecticut line of ye Continental Army & you'll oblige your Obedient Servant.
    Mansfield, ye 15th of March 1783.
    To ye Gentlemen Committee of Paytable for ye State of Connecticut.
    John Smith
    Windham County, ye 16th of March 1783.
    Personally appeared John Smith above named & signed ye above order in my presence & said certified for.
    Ephraim Root, Justice of Peace".
