    Description

    An original State of Connecticut interest bearing pay certificate issued to SAMUEL SIMONDS for service as a soldier in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army, dated June 1, 1780, and signed by Treasurer John Lawrence......Such notes were issued by the State, which was unable to pay the soldiers due to a lack of funds. Interest on this note was paid annually until 1789, when the note was finally redeemed due to the new federal government assuming all state war debts. This note was held for a number of years with interest payments recorded on reverse, and cancelled with a hole when paid.....Size 4" x 8", folds, indentured left edge to prevent counterfeiting, hand made rag paper, very good condition for such an item, a nice example for your collection......Guaranteed original........00 shipping
