Description
This is an original document, a full sheet of six Revolutionary War interest notes, signatures to include Ephraim Kisley, Nathaniel Swift, Joseph Pratt, Asahel Humphrey, Marvin Wait and David F. Sill. Document is 8x12, folds, else in overall very good condition.Nathaniel Swift was a Lieutenant in Col. Burrall's Connecticut Regiment during the Revolutionary War.
Colonel Charles Burrall's Regiment was raised on Continental basis to serve in the Northern Department under Gen. Schuyler for the year 1776, its term expiring January 19, 1777. It reinforced the troops besieging Quebec under Arnold and Wooster, and after the retreat from that position in April, '76, was stationed at Ticonderoga and vicinity, where the men suffered severely from small pox.
Two Companies of regiment, Captains Downs' and Stevens', were engaged in the affair at the Cedars, forty miles above Montreal, on May 19, and nearly all made prisoners.
Lt. Colonel David F. Sill,David was born in Lyme, Conn. on April 24, 1733. He was the son of John Sill and his first Wife Phebe Fithian. He served as a Lieutenant in the French and Indian Wars. He was in service at Lake George and at Crown Point, where he took the first French prisoner of the campaign. He was also in Montreal when the French surrendered. He married Sarah Griswold of Lyme, Conn. in 1760. In 1775 he entered the Continental Army. He commanded a company of one hundred men who were raised in Lyme, Conn. in three days. In 1776 he fought in the campaign against Lord Howe, in and around New York, USA City. By the end of the war he had risen to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the First Continental Line. After the war he was frequently elected to the legislature and served as Justice of the Peace and town Clerk for fifty years. He died at Lyme, Conn. on January 8, 1813.
