An excellent quality early example, most likely of French manufacture, having a carved wood grip of distinctive plug form and very nice brass furniture retaining most of its original fire gilt finish. Mounted with a sturdy single-edged blade becoming double-edged for the upper half of its length, featuring elaborate engraved and gold gilt decorations to both sides and the spine, depicting War Trophies and floral motives. Solid and intact overall with nice patina to the blade consistent with the age.
